If your dog follows you from room to room, paces at night or won't settle unless they're on your lap, a calming dog bed gives them a spot that feels secure around the edges with an open middle to curl into. This one has a raised, cushioned rim to tuck into and rest a chin on, long faux fur that feels deep, and the whole bed goes in the washing machine. Five sizes from 50 cm to 100 cm, so it works for a kitten right up to a Labrador.

Sides that stay up - plump fibre fill holds the rim in shape, Calming Dog Bed

Why we picked it

Most of the complaints we read about donut beds come down to three things: they arrive flat and stay flat, the sides flop over, and the size on the listing is smaller than the dog in the photo. So we picked a bed with a plump fibre fill that holds the rim up, a 100 cm top size that actually fits big breeds, and we state the outer diameter on every size so you can measure before you buy. It is a den shape many dogs and cats choose on their own; it helps a nervous pet feel settled, but it is not a treatment for anxiety and we don't claim it is.

  • Raised, cushioned rim that holds its shape for head and neck resting
  • Deep long-pile faux fur that fluffs back up after washing
  • Plump polyester fibre filling so you don't feel the floor through it
  • Whole bed machine washable on a cool cycle, no covers to wrestle
  • Anti-slip dotted base for laminate and tiles
  • Five sizes, 50 cm to 100 cm outer diameter; Beige, Dark Grey, Light Grey, Pink or Brown

Good for: dogs and cats that curl up to sleep, nervous or rescue pets, firework season, hard floors. Not for: dogs that shred soft beds, or pets who prefer to sprawl flat (see our bolster and mattress beds instead).

Size guide

Pawbrio size guide

Find their perfect fit

Size Outer diameter Best suited to
S 50 cm (19.7 in) Kittens, cats and toy breeds up to about 5 kg
M 60 cm (23.6 in) Cats and small dogs up to about 10 kg
L 70 cm (27.6 in) Medium dogs up to about 18 kg
XL 80 cm (31.5 in) Larger dogs up to about 30 kg
XXL 100 cm (39.4 in) Big breeds up to about 40 kg
How to measure: sizes are the outer diameter; the sleeping space inside the rim is smaller — as a rough guide allow 15–20 cm less. Measure your pet nose to tail while curled up, add 10 cm, and pick the size whose outer diameter is bigger than that. If they're between sizes or like to sprawl, go up. Weights are a guide only.

Care guide

Whole bed in the washing machine on a gentle 30°C cycle, no cover to remove. Air dry fully, ideally outside on a dry day, then ruffle the fur with your hand and it fluffs back up. It arrives vacuum-packed and looks flat out of the bag; give it a shake and 24 hours and it plumps up to full height.

FAQs

Do calming dog beds actually work?

For a lot of dogs and cats, yes, in the sense that they choose the bed and settle in it. The raised rim gives them something to lean into and the fur holds warmth, which is the combination nervous pets tend to pick. It is not a treatment for anxiety and won't replace training; if your dog's behaviour worries you, talk to your vet.

Will it go flat?

It arrives vacuum-packed and looks flat for the first day. After a shake and 24 hours it reaches full height, and the fibre fill is dense enough that the rim stands on its own. Washing on a cool cycle and air drying keeps it plump; a hot wash or tumble dry will flatten any fibre-filled bed.

Are the sizes measured inside or outside?

Outside. The 70 cm L is 70 cm across the outer edge; the sleeping space inside the rim is about 50–55 cm. Use the measuring note in the size guide and go up a size if in doubt.

Is it suitable for cats?

Yes. Sizes S and M suit cats and kittens, and plenty of customers tell us the cat takes over the dog's one.

Can the whole bed go in the washing machine?

Yes, the whole thing, 30°C gentle cycle. Air dry fully before it goes back down. There are no zips or covers to deal with.

Why won't my dog use it?

Give it a few days. Put it where they already sleep, drop in a worn T-shirt or their blanket so it smells of home, and don't force them into it. Most pets adopt a new bed within a week; cats can take longer.

Which size for a Cockapoo / Cocker Spaniel?

Most adults curl up happily in an L (70 cm). Choose XL if yours likes to stretch out.

Is it chew proof?

No fabric bed is. If your dog shreds soft toys or pulls stuffing out of beds, this isn't the one for them.
