This 2.5 litre cat water fountain has a removable 304 stainless steel inner bowl and a magnetic floating fish spinner that keeps the water moving.

Why we picked it

The hard part with a water fountain is not buying one. It is getting a cat who has ignored their bowl for years to take an interest in it. Most fountains answer that with movement alone, which works on some cats and not others. This one adds something to watch: a disk with two floating fish, driven magnetically, that turns as the water circulates. For a bored indoor cat that is a reason to come over and sit with it, and sitting with it is how the drinking habit starts.

Underneath the novelty it is a sensible fountain. The inner bowl is 304 stainless steel and lifts out, which is the specification worth paying for — steel does not scratch into the fine grooves that plastic develops, and those grooves are where the slippery film forms that makes a cat quietly abandon a fountain they used to like. The outer body and base are white.

It runs cordless. The bowl sits on a separate powered base and lifts off it, so there is no cable trailing across the floor while your cat drinks — useful if the only sensible spot in your kitchen is nowhere near a socket.

At 2.5 litres it holds more than our 2 litre fountain and a little less than the 3.2 litre. Comfortable for one or two cats.

Two honest things. First, the manufacturer's own materials are not consistent about filtration — their maintenance guidance treats the spinner disk as a circulating filter to be replaced every 2 to 4 weeks, while some sellers describe this fountain as filter-free. We would rather you budgeted for a replacement disk and were pleasantly surprised than the other way round, so plan on changing it. Second, no battery runtime, no noise figure and no dimensions are published for this model, and we are not going to invent them. The figures below are only what we can actually verify.

  • 2.5 litre capacity — suits one or two cats
  • Removable 304 stainless steel inner bowl
  • Magnetic floating fish spinner gives a cat something to watch, not just moving water
  • Magnetic drive — no motor sitting in the drinking water
  • Runs cordless; the bowl lifts clear of its powered base
  • Inner bowl comes right out for proper washing

Which of our fountains: This one if your cat ignores still water and you want something that actually draws them over — the spinner is the hook, and the cordless base means it can go where the socket isn't. The 2 litre if quietness matters most, in a bedroom or a small flat. The 3.2 litre for two or more pets, or to top up less often. All three use a stainless bowl; the differences are capacity and what gets your cat interested.

What's in the box

  • 1 x cat water fountain with stainless steel inner bowl
  • 1 x floating fish spinner disk
  • 1 x charging base and cable

Setting up

Rinse the bowl and the spinner disk before the first fill. Charge it fully, then fill with cold tap water and set it on a level, hard floor — away from the food bowls, because cats instinctively avoid drinking next to where they eat. Leave the old water bowl out alongside it for a week or two. Most cats investigate the spinner within a day; some take longer, and taking the old bowl away early is the quickest way to put one off for good.

Using it safely

Do not let it run dry. The pump is cooled by the water it moves, so an empty bowl will damage it — and because there is no low-water cut-off and no level window on this model, that means looking in rather than relying on it to stop itself. Unplug the charging base before you clean it. Cold water only. Keep the charging cable away from a cat that chews. If your cat's drinking changes noticeably in either direction, that is worth a word with your vet rather than putting it down to the new fountain.

Care guide

Plan on replacing the spinner disk every 2 to 4 weeks, sooner in hard water — that is what the manufacturer's maintenance guidance asks for, and it is the safer assumption even though some sellers list this fountain as filter-free. Between changes, lift the stainless bowl out and wash it weekly in hot soapy water, and run a bottle brush through the pump housing; that is where the slippery film builds up, and it is the most common reason a cat walks away from a fountain they had been using happily. No dishwasher and no bleach. Dry everything before reassembling.

FAQs

Is the fish spinner just a gimmick?

It is what keeps the water moving, so it does a job either way. But the reason to choose this fountain is that the movement gives a cat something to watch and bat at — which is often what finally gets a reluctant cat drinking.

Does it need a replacement filter?

The manufacturer's maintenance guidance says replace the spinner disk every 2 to 4 weeks, though some sellers describe this model as filter-free. We would budget for replacing it — better that than being caught out.

Is it really cordless?

Yes. The bowl lifts off a separate charging base, so nothing trails across the floor in use. You unplug the base to clean it.

How long does the battery last?

The manufacturer does not publish a runtime or a battery capacity, so we are not going to quote one. If that is the deciding factor for you, ask us before ordering and we will tell you what we know.

Is the whole thing stainless steel?

The inner bowl is 304 stainless steel and lifts out. The outer body and base are white — the steel is where the water sits, which is the part that matters for hygiene.

Why do cats prefer moving water?

They descend from desert animals that learned to avoid standing water, which is why your cat ignores a full bowl and drinks from the tap. Our guide to why cats drink more from moving water covers it properly.
