If your dog tows you down the street and your shoulder knows about it afterwards, a front clip changes the geometry of the walk. This no pull dog harness takes the lead off the back and puts it on the chest, so a dog that surges forward turns towards you instead of getting traction. Reflective trim for dark evenings, a grab handle on the back, four sizes, eight colours.

The front clip turns them towards you - takes the power out of a pull, No Pull Dog Harness

Why we picked it

We'll be straight with you, because the dog forums are: no harness stops a dog pulling. Anything sold as doing that on its own usually works by tightening or pinching, which we won't sell. What a front clip does is take the power out of the pull by turning your dog slightly sideways, which buys you the room to reward them for walking nicely. Equipment plus training; the equipment alone is half a job.

The other thing owners complain about is hardware and fit — buckles that pop open mid-lunge, straps that rub behind the front legs, and dogs that reverse straight out the back. All three come down to the harness being the right size and properly adjusted, which is why we'd rather check your measurements with you than take a return.

  • Front chest clip that redirects a pull to the side
  • Chest and body straps keep pressure off the neck, unlike a collar
  • Reflective trim picks up headlights and torchlight
  • Top grab handle for roads, stiles and close control
  • Adjustable straps so you can get two fingers under each one
  • Four sizes, S to XL; eight colours

Good for: dogs that pull, owners doing loose lead training, dark winter walks, anyone who wants a handle for roadsides. Not for: dogs who have escaped harnesses before — talk to us about measurements first — and it is not a substitute for training.

Find the right fit

Size Typical dogs Note
S Small dogs, e.g. Jack Russell, Shih Tzu Check chest girth before ordering
M Medium dogs, e.g. Beagle, Cocker Spaniel Check chest girth before ordering
L Large dogs, e.g. Labrador, Boxer Check chest girth before ordering
XL Very large dogs, e.g. German Shepherd, Rottweiler Check chest girth before ordering
How to measure: chest girth around the widest part of the ribcage, just behind the front legs, and neck girth where a collar sits. Two fingers should slide under every strap once it's on. We haven't had exact per-size measurements confirmed by the maker yet, and we'd rather say so than guess — send us your dog's chest and neck in cm and we'll tell you which size to order.

Using it safely

Fit it snugly, two fingers under each strap, and check it doesn't rub behind the front legs — that is where harnesses chafe on broad-chested dogs. Re-check the fit regularly, especially on a growing puppy or after they've worn a coat under it. Don't leave your dog unattended in the harness, and avoid sharp jerks on the lead. The harness supports training rather than replacing it.

Care guide

Hand wash in warm soapy water, rinse well and air dry. Check the buckles, clips and stitching regularly and replace the harness if anything looks worn.

FAQs

Will it stop my dog pulling?

No harness does that on its own, and we'd be suspicious of anyone who says otherwise. The front clip turns your dog towards you when they surge, which takes the power out of the pull and gives you a moment to reward them for coming back to your side. Paired with loose lead training it makes a real difference; on its own it just makes pulling less effective.

Can my dog back out of it?

Fit is what stops that. A harness adjusted so two fingers slide under each strap is hard to reverse out of; a loose one isn't. If your dog is a proven escape artist — slim, deep-chested breeds like whippets and lurchers especially — send us their measurements before you order and we'll be honest about whether this one suits them.

Will it rub behind the front legs?

It shouldn't if it's the right size and the straps sit clear of the armpit. Rubbing is almost always a sign the harness is too small or the body strap is riding too far forward. Check after the first couple of walks, particularly on broad-chested dogs.

My dog is between sizes — up or down?

Up, then tighten the straps in. A harness you can adjust down fits; one that's too small doesn't, and it's the commonest reason people return a harness.

Is it visible at night?

The reflective trim catches headlights and torchlight, which helps, but reflective only works when something is shining at it. For winter walks on unlit roads add a light-up collar or a clip-on light as well.

Can I use it with a double-ended lead?

Yes, and it's worth doing. Clipping one end to the chest and one to the back gives you much finer steering than either point alone, and it's what most trainers suggest for a dog that pulls hard.
