This raised dog feeder stands 35.5cm high with two removable 2 litre stainless steel bowls and a 44 litre storage cabinet hidden underneath.

Why we picked it

Large and older dogs do not eat comfortably off the floor. Stooping to reach a bowl puts a tall dog's neck and shoulders through the same awkward angle two or three times a day for years, and it is a well-known reason older dogs start leaving food. Raising the bowls to roughly chest height fixes the posture, and 35.5cm suits a dog with a shoulder height of around 55–65cm.

The storage cabinet is the part people end up using most. 44 litres underneath takes a sack of food, the scoop, leads, treats and the bits that otherwise live in three different cupboards — and because it is right there, refilling takes ten seconds instead of a trip to the utility room. Doors keep it out of sight, which matters if the feeder is in a kitchen or hallway rather than a boot room.

Bowls are stainless steel, 2 litres each, and lift out. That combination is the one worth paying for: steel does not scratch into the bacterial grooves plastic develops, and bowls that come out are bowls that actually get washed properly rather than wiped in place.

Two honest limitations. It is MDF, so it is furniture, not a hose-down item — spills need wiping rather than soaking. And it arrives flat-packed, so set aside half an hour and a screwdriver.

  • 35.5cm feeding height — suits dogs with a 55–65cm shoulder height
  • Two removable 2 litre stainless steel bowls, food and water
  • 44 litre hidden cabinet behind two doors
  • Holds 15kg on the top and 15kg inside
  • Sits 6.2cm clear of the floor, so you can sweep under it
  • Furniture finish that suits a kitchen rather than a utility room

How to measure: Measure your dog standing, from the floor to the top of the shoulder blade — not to the head. A raised bowl should sit at roughly chest height, so 55–65cm at the shoulder is the right range for this one. A smaller dog eating from a bowl this high has to reach up, which is as bad as reaching down.

What's in the box

  • 1 x raised pet feeder with storage cabinet
  • 2 x stainless steel bowls
  • 1 x instruction manual and fixings

Setting up

Assembly takes around half an hour with a cross-head screwdriver. Build it on a soft surface so you do not mark the finish, and tighten everything fully before you stand it up — MDF panels rely on all the fixings being snug to stay square. Put it somewhere level and against a wall. Let your dog eat from it with you standing there the first couple of times; some dogs are wary of a bowl at a new height and want a moment to work it out.

Using it safely

Respect the 15kg limits — this is MDF furniture, not a workbench, and overloading the top is how the panel sags. Do not store anything your dog should not reach in there if they are a door-opener. Raised feeding suits tall and older dogs, but it is not a treatment for any medical condition: if your dog has started struggling to eat, dropping food or coughing at mealtimes, see your vet rather than assuming a taller bowl will solve it.

Care guide

Lift both bowls out and wash them in hot soapy water daily — stainless steel is dishwasher-safe, which makes this easy. Wipe the MDF frame with a damp cloth and dry it straight away; standing water will swell the board at the edges, which is the one thing that will shorten this feeder's life. Check the fixings every few months, especially if it gets knocked, and sweep the 6.2cm gap underneath when you do.

FAQs

Is 35.5cm the right height for my dog?

It suits a dog measuring 55–65cm from floor to shoulder — so a Labrador, Golden Retriever, Boxer or similar. A Cocker Spaniel or smaller would be reaching up to it.

Are the bowls dishwasher safe?

Yes, the stainless steel bowls lift out and go in the dishwasher. The MDF frame is wipe-clean only.

How much food fits in the cabinet?

44 litres, so a large sack of kibble with room left for scoops, treats and leads. Keep the total under 15kg.

Does it come assembled?

No — it ships flat-packed with fixings and instructions. Around 30 minutes with a screwdriver.
