This 3.7 litre smart pet feeder schedules meals from your phone over Wi-Fi, warns you if it jams or runs low, and is available with or without a 120-degree HD night-vision camera.

Why we picked it

A timer feeder tells you nothing. You set it, you leave the house, and you find out whether it worked when you get back. The whole point of a connected feeder is the alert: this one pushes a notification to your phone if the chute jams or the hopper runs low, which turns "I hope the cat got fed" into something you actually know. That alone is the reason to spend more than you would on a simple timer.

The second thing it gets right is the power bank slot, hidden in the base. Mains feeders fail in a power cut, and feeders on AA batteries fail when you forget to change them. A USB power bank tucked inside gives you a backup you can see the state of, and you can top it up like a phone.

The camera is the choice to make. The With Camera version adds a 120-degree wide-angle HD camera with night vision, live viewing, two-way voice and photo and video capture — so you can watch them eat, call them over and get a clip. The Without Camera version has the same 3.7L hopper, the same app scheduling and the same jam and shortage alerts, for ten pounds less. If you just want reliable feeding, save the money. If you want to check on a pet that has been left alone, the camera is what you came for.

One limitation worth knowing: Wi-Fi range is rated at around 30 metres, so it needs to be within reasonable reach of your router. A feeder in a detached garage or at the far end of a thick-walled house may drop off, and a feeder that loses Wi-Fi loses the alerts — the schedule keeps running, but you stop hearing about problems.

  • 3.7 litre hopper with app-scheduled meals over Wi-Fi
  • Push alerts for jams and low food — the feature that actually matters
  • Hidden power bank slot in the base for backup power
  • Low draw — 2W, so a power bank lasts
  • Camera version: 120° HD night vision, live view, two-way voice, photo and video
  • Micro USB mains input, cloud and app control

Setting up

Wash and fully dry the hopper and bowl before the first fill — damp parts clump kibble and clumped kibble is what jams. Pair it to your Wi-Fi before you put food in, standing where the feeder will actually live rather than next to the router, so you find out about a weak signal now rather than when you are out. Fit a USB power bank in the base slot on day one. Then programme the meals and run a manual feed, weighing what lands in the bowl against what you asked for.

Using it safely

Dry kibble only. Keep the lid latched and the unit against a wall where it cannot be pushed over. Do not treat a connected feeder as a reason to leave a pet alone longer: alerts only help if you are near enough to act on them, and a jam at 9am on a Tuesday still means a missed meal. For anything beyond a couple of days, arrange for someone to call in. If your pet is on a prescription or weight-management diet, agree portions with your vet. The camera version streams to your phone over the internet — use a strong, unique password on the app account.

Care guide

Strip and wash the hopper, chute and bowl monthly, ideally when both are nearly empty, and dry everything completely before refilling. Wipe the camera lens with a dry microfibre cloth — kibble dust on the lens is the usual reason a night-vision image goes soft. Empty the hopper fully once a month rather than endlessly topping up, so old kibble does not sit at the bottom. Recharge the backup power bank every few weeks whether it has been used or not.

FAQs

What is the difference between the two versions?

Only the camera. Both have the 3.7L hopper, app scheduling and jam and low-food alerts. The camera version adds live viewing, night vision, two-way voice and photo and video capture.

Does it keep working in a power cut?

Yes, if you have a USB power bank in the hidden slot in the base. The power bank is not included, so buy one with it.

Will it reach my Wi-Fi?

It is rated at around 30 metres. Test the connection from the feeder's final position before you rely on it — thick walls and outbuildings are where these drop out.

Can I use wet food?

No. Dry kibble only — wet food will not dispense and will spoil in the hopper.

What happens if it jams?

You get a push notification, which is the main reason to choose this over a plain timer feeder. You will still need someone to clear it, so the alert is useful, not a fix.
