This smart treat dispenser holds 0.5 litres of treats, connects over 2.4GHz Wi-Fi so you can reward your pet from your phone, and works with Alexa.

Why we picked it

The problem with leaving a dog alone is not food — it is the hours of nothing happening. A treat dispenser you can trigger from your phone gives you something to do about that: a reward when they settle instead of bark, a bit of engagement in the middle of a long afternoon, and a reason for them to associate your absence with something good rather than with waiting. Used deliberately, it is a training tool, not a gadget.

Alexa support is the part people underuse. Once it is linked, you can trigger a treat by voice without unlocking your phone — which sounds trivial until you are trying to reward a dog for being quiet at the exact second they are quiet. Timing is everything in reward training, and a voice command is faster than an app.

Be clear on the capacity: 0.5 litres is treats, not meals. This is not a replacement for a feeder and cannot hold a day's food. If you want scheduled meals while you are out, you want a 3.7 or 4 litre automatic feeder; this sits alongside one.

It needs 2.4GHz Wi-Fi specifically — not 5GHz. Most UK routers broadcast both, but if yours is set to a single combined network you may need to split the bands to get it connected, and that is the one setup step that catches people out.

  • 0.5 litre treat hopper — for rewards, not full meals
  • Trigger a treat from your phone over Wi-Fi, wherever you are
  • Works with Alexa, so you can reward by voice
  • ABS body, 16.5 x 16.5 x 28.5cm — small enough for a hallway or kitchen corner
  • iOS 7.0 and above, Android 5.0 and above
  • Useful for separation training, boredom and rewarding calm behaviour

Using it as a training tool: Reward the behaviour you want more of, not the behaviour that gets your attention. Treating a barking dog to quieten them teaches them that barking produces treats. Wait for the silence, then treat — that is where voice control earns its keep, because you can do it the moment it happens. Use the smallest treats that will dispense cleanly, and count them against the day's food.

What's in the box

  • 1 x smart treat dispenser
  • 1 x power cable
  • 1 x instruction manual

Setting up

Connect it to your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network before you add treats. If your router shows one combined network name, go into its settings and enable the 2.4GHz band separately — this is the step that stops most smart pet devices connecting, and it is a router setting rather than a fault. Link it to Alexa next if you want voice control. Then load dry treats, run a few test dispenses while your pet watches, and let them learn what the sound means before you use it from away.

Using it safely

Dry treats only — anything soft or oily will clog the mechanism. Keep treats to a sensible share of your pet's daily intake; a dispenser makes over-treating very easy, and the calories are real. Do not use it as a reason to leave a dog alone for longer than they can cope with: a treat does not fix separation anxiety, and if your dog is distressed when alone that needs a behaviourist, not a gadget. Site it where it cannot be knocked over and keep the power cable out of reach of a chewer. Supervise the first few sessions in case your pet tries to get into the hopper rather than wait for it.

Care guide

Empty the hopper and wipe it out every couple of weeks — treat crumbs and oils build up and are the usual cause of a jam. Clean the body with a barely damp cloth only; do not rinse or submerge it. Dry everything fully before refilling. Keep the dispensing chute clear with a dry brush, and do not leave treats sitting in it for weeks at a time.

FAQs

Can I use this instead of an automatic feeder?

No. 0.5 litres holds treats, not meals. If you need scheduled feeding while you are out, use a 3.7 or 4 litre automatic feeder and keep this for rewards.

Why won't it connect to my Wi-Fi?

Almost always because it needs 2.4GHz and your router is presenting one combined 2.4/5GHz network. Split the bands in your router settings and it will connect.

Does it work with Google Home?

Alexa support is what the manufacturer specifies. We would not promise Google Home — ask us before ordering if that is the deciding factor.

What size treats work best?

Small, hard, dry treats of a consistent shape. Soft, sticky or oily treats will clog it, and very large ones will not feed.
